I saw this wonderful Japanese film called
All About Lily Chou-Chou last night. The film deals with the lives of a group of teenagers; it has all the typical school-kids themes: bullying, coming of age stories, etc.; however, it is so well done that none of them seem cliché. I especially love the mood and the pace of
Lily Chou-Chou... the director utilized this low-key tone: everything in the film works together to create this perfect harmony. In addition, the film produces genuine emotions through the portrayal of innocence and alienation among the children.
Lily Chou-Chou is accompanied by a topnotch soundtrack which features Japanese singer/actress
Salya. Her music has this haunting quality; the music kind of reminds me of Sigur Rós/The Album Leaf while the vocal is a bit like Portishead/ PJ Harvey.
