the saddest day of my life pt ii

Patrick posted this on the messageboard:

dear all...
I should never have read this.. I really shouldn't.
I dont think when I was 16 and dreamt of releasing records there would ever be so much crazy speculation about the person I am and that you want me to be. I have become so tired of this behaviour, sometimes I wake up and have to do six hours of interviews before doing a show, then go straight to bed to sleep a couple of hours to fly to a new country to be cross examined in the same way.. I dont know what is left of me sometimes, some mornings i dont know how i get on the flight or even open my mouth to sing that night. If I choose after working since the early hours of a day and then pouring my heart out for an hour and a half that I really have nothing left to give.. that I cannot be a fake politician and sign autographs for an hour.. does this make an asshole?
because my drummer was causing arguments within my road family, taking sedative drugs before an important show in a city i really love, so much so he could not play the music I wrote, the songs that I have survived on in the last six years... because I had to slap him to see if he was even CONSCIOUS on stage.... the fact that the only thing that got any reaction out his corpse happened to be made of metal.. because all of this.. does this make me seem like I was on cocaine, or on some power trip? I was pissed off because this was just one more musician or businessman taking my good nature and generosity for a ride... trust me, that moment onstage was the end of a long line of bad behaviour that it would unfair to go into in public. Yes I was drunk, but It was one oclock in the morning after seven hours of interviews.. i had been running on about four hours of sleep a night for about two weeks... such is the joy of promoting a record. Anyway, I was having FUN until that moment. So was the rest of my band until we realised my drummer was taking the piss out of all of us and our hard work. I dont work with liars and I dont work with thieves.

I dont want to have to share this information with you but so many seem so interested...

I have made a decision, my final concert will be this november, a retrospective with an orchestra in London. I am not sure wether there will be anymore public communications after that, Infact I am pretty sure there will be none. Of course, this has nothing to do with my drummer.. but a creative clock is ticking and I have many many projects to be creating with my time left on this earth. I hope to share my last shows with you this year.

I have enjoyed making and performing music for you all, I have enjoyed trying to give a little hope
and inspiration to the world. But I feel, especially when I read all this and I go about my days that I have failed.
Im not seeking sympathy or empathy, god, I have to go find something I love and am inspired by in this world again. Many of you will never know the amount of work and emotion that goes on behind the scenes for me and many of your other favourite artists or musicians and why should you? I wanted to give you disneyland.. I wanted to give you a world at the back of your wardrobe, now im just feel a fool for bothering.
I am in berlin today, i know I should never have read this, I dont know who any of you are, just strangers talking amongst themselves,
and I wish I was stronger minded today, but i have to take enough bullshit from other parts of the world for what I do and who I am without getting it from here.

Im going off for a walk now.. clear my heart and head. Thanks to all you with the intelligence to see past the superficial chaos of the media and the various ridiculous personalities and characters that have been painted around me over the years, the problem is, unfortunately many of you will never get to know the truth, but many will still speculate, and play chinese whispers with interviews and
opinions from the friend of a friend. This is nothing new to me, unfortunately, luckily I have always had a close set of dear friends that will always know me for who I really am, just as I do.

If I can give any advice, is, if anything, just listen to the music, watch the videos, read the lyrics, see the artwork, these are my communications, not others.

still love x patrick

the saddest day of my life

So I just found out that Patrick Wolf will FINALLY be coming to Toronto on May 12 and 13 at the Mod Club to open for Amy Winehouse; however, both of those shows were sold out months ago... before Patrick was put on the bill! Words cannot express how sad I am right now!

i will never see the sun

Here are the pictures from the Great Lake Swimmers show at the Church of the Redeemer on last Saturday.

Owen Pallett, aka Final Fantasy joins the band.

let's get married

The lack of new music recommendations and song postings is brought to you by three major projects, two exams, and three essays that are all on my agenda in the next three days. However, I feel extremely guilty not updating this blog with some sweet music, so here’s my update at 5:30 in the morning. There are two bands that are helping me through this madness at the moment: The Maccabees and The Twilight Sad.
First, The Maccabees’ Colour It In is another sensational indie pop rock record coming out of the UK this year. The album features a mixture of theatrical songs with elements of The Futureheads. If you liked the indie-Brit-bands that I have been recommending recently (The Florists, Bromheads Jacket, The Good Shoes, Larrikin Love, Little Man Tate), make sure to check out The Maccabees.

Latchmere [wicked-cool song]
First Love [super-wicked-cool song]

Colour It In comes out on May 14 in the UK... go check out their wicked-cool website here.

Second, The Twilight Sad’s Fourteen Autumns And Fifteen Winters is an absolutely gorgeous album. It is full of pure, soulful, rock and roll songs from start to finish. Further, it is by far one of the most honest sounding albums of the year. I really cannot see anyone not liking this album!

out this week

Patrick Wof: The Magic Position [Single]
One of the happiest songs I’ve ever heard is now out in single format... in fact, you can get it from digital download, CD, and two 7” singles!!! I can’t wait to get my hands on all of them!!!

The Magic Position [super-wicked-cool song]

buy The Magic Position Single(s) here

Björk: Earth Intruders [Digital Single]
"Earth Intruders" echoes Debut/Post era style with the maturity of Medúlla. The new single will definitely make up for those who were greatly disappointed with the last record.

Earth Intruders [wicked-cool song]

The Terrible Twos: If You Ever See An Owl...
Woo… this came out today? I got this album about a year ago at The New Amsterdams show... holy crap... what the hell took so long for it to come out!!?!?!? Anyways, I absolutely adore If You Ever See An Owl... it’s like children’s music for grownups! "We Can All Get Along With Dinosaurs" is one of the best songs I’ve heard in years!!!

We Can All Get Along With Dinosaurs [super-wicked-cool song]
A Rake, A Broom, A Mop, A Shovel [wicked-cool song]

Bright Eyes: Cassadaga
A fine record with some beautiful productions.

Cocorosie: The Adventures of Ghosthorse and Stillborn
While Noah's Ark was wonderful, it kind of lost its charm near the end. On the other hand, The Adventures of Ghosthorse and Stillborn is a solid record from start to finish!

at club 18-30 i met julius caesar, lady diana and mother theresa.

Klaxons opened their first ever North American tour on Easter Sunday in Toronto at The Lee’s Palace. For those of you who are seeing Klaxons for the first time, you are in for a surprise! If you are expecting a disco dance rave show, you are also in for a surprise! When it comes to live performances, Klaxons are anything but ‘new rave’. The concert on Easter Sunday was loud and the audience was nearly as aggressive as those at hardcore punk shows. Despite the style departure from their studio recordings, Klaxons sounded absolutely amazing! The vocals as well as the instrumentations were perfect! This is one of those must-see bands... so make sure you try to catch Klaxons when they invade your city!

vietnam fishing trips, italian opera

Went to the Cold War Kids/Tokyo Police Club show last night at The Mod Club. Stupid me brought the camera, but forgot the memory card at home... so I was only able to take a handful of pictures. As I expected, Cold War Kids stole the show... Nathan Willett’s vocal was wonderful... that man can sing!!

i have officially lost count on how many times i have re-posted old bright eyes

There has been an overwhelming request for the old Bright Eyes cassettes post in the past week or so... I guess Cassadaga is coming out in less than a week and everyone is getting really excited and want as much Bright Eyes as possible... anyways, I have uploaded all the songs once again, here is the link to that post.

Oh, and just for fun, you can download the bonus track from the 3"CD/7" Vinly from the Cassadaga pre-orders below.

there's a good chance we won't make it to the big dance

I am seeing the Cold War Kids/Tokyo Police Club concert tonight! However, I am a little disappointed to find out that Cold Wars Kids is only playing for 45mins while Tokyo Police Club has a longer set and is actually the closing band. Personally, I rather see CWK for longer… hatever… i’m sure it'll be a fine show!

omg... patrick has a new haircut.... !!!

Sorry for the lack of posts lately... my time for the past few days was pretty much all dedicated to school... and sadly, that will probably be the case for the next little while... but I’ll definitely try to keep the posts coming. For now, please enjoy two reposts, both related to P.Wolf: first, I reposted the bonus song from The Magic Position; second, all the songs from the vCasts are up once again!
