song of the moment

Q: What will Diamond Ring do to follow-up his incredible debut single, "All Yr Songs"?

A: Make a Janet Jackson inspired music video for his second single, "Wait & See"!
This equally incredible new single is set to release on March 9 through German record label Tomlab. On Side B of the 7-inch single is a cover of Sebadoh’s "On Fire". You can stream both of those songs here.

i want to take you to canada

I was browsing through iTunes earlier and saw that The Thermals are featured in the 'Free Single of the Week' section. So I clicked on the link and to my surprise, the single is called "Canada"! Brilliant... perfect timing!—as we all know, the Vancouver Olympic Games are underway. Make sure you download this pop-rock sensation for FREE over at iTunes, or by clicking on the link below!

go canada go!

I know I have been neglecting this blog lately, and I am sorry to say that my lack of posts will continue for the next two weeks because I will be busy watching the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics! Speaking of the Olympics, I have to congratulate freestyle skier Alexandre Bilodeau for winning Canada’s first gold medal on home soil! Bilodeau captured gold last night in the men’s moguls event at Cypress Mountain, it was dramatic and emotional (I cried), definitely one of the greatest Olympic moments ever! Anyway, I have to get back to watching alpine skiing; for now, I leave you with a song from Vancouver’s own, Japandroids.

new zookeepers!

One of my new favourite discoveries of last year, The Zookeepers have recently released a new record (their seventh!) Get Good Looking Out over at the band’s site here. As always, you can download the entire thing for FREE, but donations are always welcome. In addition, Good Looking Out will be out in physical CD form in early March, pre-order it now... it is pretty wicked!

And if you still haven't heard The Zookeepers' masterpiece/my fifth favourite album of 2009, Ballin' Outrageous, hear it now by going here.

the soft pack: the soft pack

It is insane how much I am enjoying the S/T album by The Soft Pack. There are so many reasons to obsess over The Soft Pack: it is fast pace, upbeat and full of positive and carefree energy; the record is full of mouth-watering surf guitar solos/melodies and noisy garage sound; and it sounds like a hybrid of surf punk and indie pop... think of a less raw Agent Orange or Skate Korpse combined with the indie pop sound of Nada Surf. The Soft Pack came out at the worst and best time—it seems wrong to listen to this on cold winter weather; but it will definitely brighten those gloomy winter days!
