thursday wake up call

MUST SEE! Josh Ritter's "Love Is Making Its Way Back Home", created by Prominent Figures using over 12,000 pieces of construction paper with no added effects, is hands down one of the most creative and impressive music videos I have ever seen!

"Love Is Making Its Way Back Home" is featured on Bringing In The Darlings EP, get the vinyl here.

pop. 1280: the horror

Out of the two dozen records I've heard in this young year so far, Pop. 1280's debut, The Horror is the one that stands out for me. Pop. 1280 plays a very atmospheric type of music—not dreamy and calming atmospheric like Grouper, but rather the opposite. Pop. 1280's The Horror is moody like a nightmare-ish soundtrack, think David Lynch's Lost Highway. The finest moments come from "Nature Boy", "Bodies in the Dunes" and "West World"—those are dark, sinister and chaotic noisy tracks... they add to the fascinatingly unique experience of The Horror! If you ever wonder what a louder and faster version of Suicide + Joy Division would sound like, this is it.

Here's an older version, from Pop. 1280's The Grid EP

Ceremony have released a video for "World Blue"

"World Blue" is from Zoo, out on March 6th via Matador Records!

As a huge Ceremony fan, I am still need to get used to the band's "new sound"... for me, they went from being one of the best hardcore bands to a mediocre garage rock band. I guess they ARE "sick of hardcore".

Happy Valentine's Day... or not...

I am making the same post as I did a year ago:

For those that ARE celebrating Valentine's Day, here's Bright Eyes' "First Day of My Life":

"...this is the first day of my life / I'm glad I didn’t die before I met you / But now I don't care I could go anywhere with you / And I'd probably be happy..."

... and for those that are NOT celebrating, here's Bright Eyes' "A Perfect Sonnet":

"...I believe that lovers should be tied together / Thrown into the ocean in the worst of weather / Left there to drown / Left there to drown in their innocence..."

"First Day of My Life" is from I'm Wide Awake It's Morning while "A Perfect Sonnet" is from Every Day and Every Night EP—both released through Saddle Creek.

sun boxes

Arkansas-based carpenter and sound artist, Craig Colorusso has created a brilliant interactive art installation of music + nature entitled Sun Boxes. Sun Boxes is a sustainable project composed of twenty boxes playing twenty different guitar loops to create a one-of-a-kind experience powered by the sun.

"Sun Boxes are an environment to enter and exit at will. It’s comprised of twenty speakers operating independently, each powered by the sun via solar panels. There is a different loop set to play a guitar note in each box continuously. These guitar notes collectively make a Bb chord. Because the loops are different in length, once the piece begins they continually overlap and the piece slowly evolves over time."

Watch one of Craig Colorusso's Sun Boxes installations below:
