I was really excited for the release of White Magic by Ceo near the beginning of the summer. Ceo is a new solo project from Eric Berglund of The Tough Alliance. If you are a long time reader of this blog, you know how much I LOVE listening to The Tough Alliance’s A New Chance during the summer—it is the absolute perfect summer record, and one of my favourites of the last decade! So obviously, I had a pretty high expectation for Ceo's debut record. By and large, I think Ceo succeed—I am more than satisfied with White Magic, partly because it sounds like a Tough Alliance record, but mostly because it is a damn good record! Let’s get back to sounding like TTA part: there is definitely no complaint here as we might never get another TTA record... I’ll take whatever I can get! What Berglund did differently (or more noticeably) with Ceo and White Magic is the incorporation of more ambient or dreamy moments—I really love the buildups/tempos in "All Around", "Oh God, Oh Dear" and "Den Blomstertid Nu Kommer", I hope to hear more songs like those in future Ceo releases. I know this post is way late, but there is still a little time left to make White Magic as your 2010 summer album... well, I guess there’s always next summer!
Sorry folks, I have completely neglected this blog in the past month or so; I think it’s time for me to get back into posting! So what am I listening to at this moment that I’d recommend? —The Scott Pilgrim vs. the World Original Videogame Soundtrack! Note that I am recommending the game soundtrack by Anamanaguchi and NOT the movie soundtrack. The album is 45 minutes of classic 8-bit/NES music (listen to this classic NES song if you don’t know what 8-bit music is.) This soundtrack is pretty much most amazing thing ever! If you like classic videogame music or The Advantage, you should definitely check out Anamanaguchi’s Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: Original Videogame Soundtrack; and make sure to visit the band’s site as they are giving away a new FREE single every two weeks!
