Sorry for the crappy non-updates recently… I have just been crazy busy. I promise that I will be back with regular updates really really soon; for now, here’s what I’ve been listening to:
I am pretty sure that this is my favourite song of the year so far: Active Child featuring How To Dress Well: "Playing House"
Night Birds: The Other Side Of Darkness
Only shit... so digging this album—80s hardcore, surf punk... FANTASTIC!
Aperture Science Psychoacoustics Laboratory—volume 2 of the Portal 2 soundtrack is out... and the entire thing is FREE!!!!
Attack The Block—great movie and a even greater soundtrack by Basement Jaxx:
Sushi Island—a shit load of free chiptune music including The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Re-Bit... so awesome!
New Zola Jesus album, Conatus:

from up the poppy hill
Watched a lovely animated film called Kokuriko-zaka kara (From up on Poppy Hill) at TIFF yesterday. The film felt like a classic Studio Ghibli production with very realistic, genuine and emotional plot + characters—very similar to Whisper of the Heart, Ocean Waves and Only Yesterday.
An added bonus, like so many Ghibli films in the past, Kokuriko-zaka kara had an unforgettable soundtrack! Aoi Teshima, who provided the theme song for Tales from Earthsea, sung the songs for this film. Listen to the theme song for Kokuriko-zaka kara below:

caves: homeward bound
Caves are a three-piece band from Bristol, UK and their new album, Homeward Bound is a wickedly fast, loud and catchy pop punk record! But what I love the most is its DIY and aggressively raw sound—it makes the 33mins of music intimate and honest—you feel like you are listening to the band live. Homeward Bound is one of the most exciting and energetic records of the year!
