After listening to Með Suð í Eyrum Við Spilum Endalaust obsessively in the past 24 hours, my initial thoughts on the album are as follow:

• Sigur Rós departs from the gloomy (and sometimes very depressing) tone. The new record is rather uplifting as songs such as "Gobbledigook", "Inn Í Mér Syngur Vitleysingur", "Við Spilum Endalaust", and "Suð Í Eyrum" are triumphant and celebratory sounding.
• It is the most vocal driven and least experimental album in the group’s discography.
• One of the best albums of the year and yet another indescribably stunning Sigur Rós album!

After hearing (the uncharacteristic) "Gobbledigook", I am sure everyone is wondering what the rest of Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust is going to be like. A couple of days ago, another track ("Festival") from the new Sigur Rós album debuted on BBC Radio 1... this one is more 'Sigur Rós-like'... check out the radio rip of it below.

Sigur Rós had this to say in a Myspace bulletin sent today: "Sigur Ros and YouTube make a little bit of history this Friday (Mar 7) with the band taking over the entire front page of the site around the world for a whole day, becoming the first group to ever have a feature-length music DVD streamed on the channel, with their acclaimed 'Heima' documentary shown in its complete 97-minute glory."

Sigur Rós’s concert DVD, Heima, came out in North America about a week ago. I had the pleasure of watching it on the big screen last Friday at the Royal Cinema in Toronto and I was completely blown away by the experience. Ultimately, you don’t have to be a Sigur Rós fan to enjoy Heima. The movie is naturally beautiful and the music is gorgeous as usual. I especially loved the way the film was edited; in particular, the use of various imageries to foreshadow future scenes/events.

Heima is out on a 2-disc DVD set and a deluxe edition that comes with photobook. I have to say, get the deluxe edition if you see it! (Most stores in downtown Toronto are sold out of it already) The packaging and contents are outrageously stunning! I paid $30 for the deluxe edition and I feel that I should’ve paid more for it!

If you are like me (who is completely obsessed with the DVD at the moment), you probably can’t stop watching/listening to the full-length performances on the second disc. And since the Hvarf /Heima CD set is just not enough, I have taken all the live performances (15 in total) from Heima and converted them into mp3s. You can download all of them below!

Sigur Rós will be releasing a double compilation album entitled Hvarf-Heim on November 5th. The album will feature studio version of unreleased songs as well as acoustic studio versions of "Samskeyti", "Starálfur", "Vaka", "Ágætis Byrjun", "Heysátan", and "Von".

In addition, a new Sigur Rós tour film called Heima is scheduled to come out some time in the near future. You can watch the gorgeous trailer for the film here.

For the past seven months or so, I have been obsessed with the Icelandic group Sigur Rós. So to educate myself more with this amazing band, I have decided to do a Sigur Rós A to Z. Enjoy!

A is for August 1994, the year Sigur Rós was formed.
A is also for Arni & Kinski, who are responsible for breathtaking Sigur Rós videos such as "Hoppípolla" and "Glósóli".

B is for blindness. Jónsi (Sigur Rós’ lead singer) is blind in one eye since birth.

C is for The Calculation Car (Reiknibíllinn). Sigur Rós did the voices for this Icelandic children’s mathematics video game.

D is for "Dauðlagið" aka Untitled 7 from ( ), which translates to "The Death Song".

K is for Kjartan Sveinsson, aka Kjarri, who is the only member of Sigur Rós that studied music.

L is for The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, a Wes Anderson’s film that featured the song "Starálfur".

After months of delay, the new Sigur Rós EP is finally coming out in a few weeks (July 11). The EP contains four tracks: the new single "Sæglópur", as well as three brand new Sigur Rós songs!!!!!!!!! It also comes with a DVD which includes the video for "Hoppípolla", "Glósóli", and "Sæglópur". This is a must have EP because: 1. "Sæglópur" is an amazing song! 2. Three new Sigur Rós songs! 3. All three videos included are spectacular! (you really don’t have to be a Sigur Rós fan to enjoy the music videos)

I went to the Olympic Island show today... BSS was alright, Bloc Party was fun, and Feist was great. She was sick and her voice still sounded amazing! I recorded a little more than half of her set, the quality is pretty poor, but I will post that up in a few days for those of you who are interested. I really hope someone has a better bootleg! Speaking of bootlegging, the majestic Sigur Rós played at the Massey Hall in Toronto, Ontario about a month ago (May 13). Unfortunately, I missed that show (insert extremely sad face here). Anyways, thanks to the beauty of bootlegs and an amazing Sigur Rós bittorrent site, I have acquired the entire show. The version I downloaded was in Flac. format, but I have converted them into Mp3s. I am not supposed to share these tracks in Mp3 forms, but I think that this blog is so small that I can do this without getting myself into trouble.
