song of the moment

I am very excited to announce that Surf City will release their debut full-length Kudos on November 30, 2010 through Fire Records. This will be the band’s follow-up to their kick-ass S/T EP released back in 2008. Listen to/download the S/T track off Kudos below!

no age: everything in between

Everything in Between is No Age's third full-length, and for the third time in four years, the duo from LA has wowed me with an impressively entertaining record! It is too early to say if the new record is better than the first two; however, it is safe to say that there are more songs to get excited for in Everything in Between. Here’s what I mean: While there are certainly standout songs from both Weirdo Rippers and Nouns, I mostly listen to both of those albums from start to finish rather than listening to selective tracks repeatedly. On the other hand, I feel the opposite with Everything in Between. Yes, the album is definitely incredible as a whole, but there are at least a handful of really stand-alone tracks that I have been listening to over and over again—especially "Glitter", "Fever Dreaming", "Sorts" and "Chem Trails". Otherwise, the new record is everything one would expect from No Age—loud, energetic... just pure awesomeness! Buy it!

Ps, the packaging for the vinyl is fucking amazing!

ceo: white magic

I was really excited for the release of White Magic by Ceo near the beginning of the summer. Ceo is a new solo project from Eric Berglund of The Tough Alliance. If you are a long time reader of this blog, you know how much I LOVE listening to The Tough Alliance’s A New Chance during the summer—it is the absolute perfect summer record, and one of my favourites of the last decade! So obviously, I had a pretty high expectation for Ceo's debut record. By and large, I think Ceo succeed—I am more than satisfied with White Magic, partly because it sounds like a Tough Alliance record, but mostly because it is a damn good record! Let’s get back to sounding like TTA part: there is definitely no complaint here as we might never get another TTA record... I’ll take whatever I can get! What Berglund did differently (or more noticeably) with Ceo and White Magic is the incorporation of more ambient or dreamy moments—I really love the buildups/tempos in "All Around", "Oh God, Oh Dear" and "Den Blomstertid Nu Kommer", I hope to hear more songs like those in future Ceo releases. I know this post is way late, but there is still a little time left to make White Magic as your 2010 summer album... well, I guess there’s always next summer!

anamanaguchi: scott pilgrim vs. the world: original videogame soundtrack

Sorry folks, I have completely neglected this blog in the past month or so; I think it’s time for me to get back into posting! So what am I listening to at this moment that I’d recommend? —The Scott Pilgrim vs. the World Original Videogame Soundtrack! Note that I am recommending the game soundtrack by Anamanaguchi and NOT the movie soundtrack. The album is 45 minutes of classic 8-bit/NES music (listen to this classic NES song if you don’t know what 8-bit music is.) This soundtrack is pretty much most amazing thing ever! If you like classic videogame music or The Advantage, you should definitely check out Anamanaguchi’s Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: Original Videogame Soundtrack; and make sure to visit the band’s site as they are giving away a new FREE single every two weeks!
