...and the rest is a long list of shows in Toronto this week. So I went to check out the Lee's Palace's event page and a band called Polaris Pricks is playing just before The Horrors at 10pm. I Googled Polaris Pricks and there's absolutely nothing about them... but wait a minute... Fucked Up just won the Polaris Prize... could it be??? Now I really can't wait for the show!

the horrors: primary colours

The Stooges/garage-punk sound of Strange House is gone from The Horrors’ follow-up; in fact, their style changed so dramatically that I thought I was listening to a different band the first time I heard Primary Colours. Leaving the early 70s, The Horrors traveled to the late 70s/mid-80s and learned from bands like Suicide, Joy Division and The Jesus and Mary Chain. The result is truly astonishing; they have once again successfully taken the best elements from a popular classic genre and reinvented it to create an absolutely brilliant record! I would go as far as to say that Primary Colours is the best record of 2009 so far! I can go on and on about this album and do a track-by-track thing like I did for The Thermals’ Now We Can See; but you probably don’t want to read an essay on Primary Colours and frankly, I am too lazy to write a long review! Nevertheless, I will tell you that my favourite tracks are "Who Can Say", "I Can’t Control Myself", Primary Colours and of course, the 8-minute epic Sea Within A Sea! Oh, and did I mention, Primary Colours is the best record of 2009!

So the amazing Strange House is finally seeing light in North America on the 15th of May. I came across a link that has a Pre-Order of the CD and you can get a T-shirt with it. It opened the link up and I was in complete shock:

Maria Taylor: Lynn Teeter Flower
Maria Taylor’s second album features similar styles of Jenny Lewis and Regina Spektor. In my opinion, it is a much finer record than 11:11.

Strange House by The Horrors–one of my most anticipated albums of this year, is coming out tomorrow in the UK. The Horrors’ debut full-length opens with "Jack The Ripper". A track that should be familiar to most Horrors fans… but wait! This "Jack The Ripper" is different!!!... it opens with a slower tempo... kind of psychedelic sound before crushing into chaos… I absolutely love this new version! Other non-EP highlights include "Count In Fives", "Draw Japan", the new single, "Gloves", and "Little Victories"... actually... the entire record is just brilliant and perfect! The North American release EP was my favorite EP of last year, and Strange House will most likely be on my year-end list, as it is already one of the best records I’ve heard this year!
