thank you criminal records!

My favourite music store ever—Criminal Records—closed its doors this past Sunday... it was indeed a very sad day. Thank you Paul, Josh and Jameson for 5 years of kindness and awesomeness, you guys will be missed!

the summer I was taking steroids

I am really loving this band/duo from New Jersey called The Front Bottoms at the moment. They play folk-y punk songs with a carefree and lively vibe... perfect summer tunes! You can stream a handful of their songs over at the band’s Facebook page. Their s/t debut album is out on September 6th through Bar/None.

bill wells & aidan moffat: everything's getting older

I don’t consider myself a jazz fan—I have very little knowledge of the genre; and I only have two jazz albums in my music library: the Sweet and Lowdown Soundtrack and A Charlie Brown Christmas. So it is not surprising that it took me a while to really get Everything's Getting Older by Bill Wells & Aidan Moffat—a brilliant avant-garde jazz album full of soothing piano lullabies and minimalistic percussion. The best part about Everything's Getting Older is the fascinating lyrics and Aidan Moffat’s wisely sounding voice provides engaging spoken-word stories, philosophies and rants. This is not the typically type of music/album I usually recommend on this blog, but I highly encourage everyone to give this fantastic record a listen or two!
