de rosa: prevention

The first time I heard Prevention, I quickly associated De Rosa with The Twilight Sad because Martin Henry sings in that lovable Scottish accent. However, Henry’s passionate and emotional voice reminds me more of Todd Marriott (I Was a Cub Scout); and for the most parts, Prevention is very much like I Was a Cub Scout for its straightforward indie rock sound. Although it is still quite fresh, Prevention feels like one of those albums that I can listen to over and over again without getting sick of it.

stop this now before it spreads to your country!

This law could be put into effect as early as February 28 in New Zealand:

"Section 92 of the Copyright Amendment Act assumes Guilt Upon Accusation and forces the termination of internet connections and websites without evidence, without a fair trial, and without punishment for any false accusations of copyright infringement."

Stand up against "Guilt Upon Accusation" for New Zealand http://creativefreedom.org.nz/blackout.html

New Zealand's new Copyright Law presumes 'Guilt Upon Accusation' and will Cut Off Internet Connections without a trial. Join the black out protest against it!

bibio: vignetting the compost

Bibio’s Vignetting The Compost sounds like a combination of ambient and experimental artists I highly enjoy. The use of loops, drone and found sounds generate some very dreamy atmosphere... sort of a cross between Lawrence English and Pajo. In addition, the album has that outdoorsy and nature sensation of Our Sleepless Forest and the colourful and imaginative creativity of Shugo Tokumaru.

ghost bees: tasseomancy ep

A friend from school told me about Ghost Bees a couple of months ago. After hearing some lovely songs on their MySpace, I decided to check out Tasseomancy EP. Ghost Bees consist of twin sisters Romy and Sari Lightman from Halifax, Nova Scotia. Their EP features hauntingly gorgeous folk melodies, fantastical fairy-tale like lyrics, and Joanna Newsom like vocals. I think I fell in love with Tasseomancy EP because of the third track, "Erl King"... a sort of cover of one of my favourite classical songs: Franz Schubert’s "Der Erlkönig". The weird thing is that I compared that song to Ghost Bees’ labelmate, Fall Horsie last October (not knowing that Ghost Bees covered it). Anyway, Ghost Bees are definitely one of the brightest up and coming Canadian acts and I can’t wait to hear more music from them!
